Dr. Dvir Aran

[pb_slideshow group=”2″]

Dr. Dvir Aran is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Biology and the Taub Faculty of Computer Science at the Technion – Israel Institute for Technology. Dr. Aran’s research field is computational biology—as such, he uses data science and AI to advance biological and medical research. Dr Aran develops computational tools and applies them to integrate and analyze big data from multiple sources, including genomic and epigenetic data and electronic medical records. His research aims to advance the understanding of the tumor microenvironment, as well as the immune system, and their relationship with potential treatments. Dr. Aran has gained international recognition for his contributions to the understanding of the tumor microenvironment and other diseases. The tools he developed serve thousands of researchers every year to conduct complicated analysis in an automated, user-friendly manner.

Dr. Aran’s early research focus was on the interplays between DNA methylation and gene expression profiles in health and disease. He then shifted to developing computational and experimental methods for better characterization of the tumor microenvironment and applying those methods to pan-cancer studies. The methods he developed are used by thousands of researchers in academia and industry around the world. Dr. Aran’s current focus is split between computational immunology analyses using single-cell RNA-sequencing data; and applying machine-learning techniques on electronic health records (EHR) to improve patients’ flow and disease outcomes.

Dr. Yair Feld

Doctor Yair Feld completed his first degree in Physics from the University of Tel Aviv. He later received his MD from the Ruth & Bruch Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa and pursued his PhD at the same institute. During this period he founded CorAssist cardiovascular that develops a novel device for heart failure with preserve ejection fraction that is currently being evaluated in a clinical trial. Dr. Feld completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Rambam Health Care Campus as well as a Cardiology fellowship at the same institution. During this period he founded Paragate Medical that develops a dedicated device for fluids removal in patients with heart failure and diuretic resistance. He then spent a two-year fellowship in Interventional cardiology at the University of Toronto. He then founded Cuspa medical that develops a new device for valvular diseases. Currently, he holds the position of senior interventional cardiologist, head of Rambam innovation center and assistant professor at the Technion’s Faculty of Medicine.

Doctor Feld’s research activities are focused on the area of medical devices and tissue engineering.

Prof. Keren Itzchak

[pb_slideshow group=”2″]

I completed my undergraduate studies in the Computational Biology and Computer Science program at the Hebrew university. I then moved to Tel-Aviv University to do my Masters and PhD in Computer Science under the supervision of Prof. Eytan Ruppin, where I focused on developing computational methods for studying human metabolism, specifically in aging and cancer. In 2015 I started my post-doc at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard working with Prof. Gad Getz. During this time I developed methods for studying tumor immunity at the single-cell level, as well as methods for studying somatic clonality in normal tissues. A year ago, I opened my Computational Cancer Genomics lab at the Faculty of Medicine, where we continue to develop and apply computational tools for studying cancer genomics and immunity.

Irit is the Director of the Oncology Division at Rambam Health Care Campus. Prof. Ben-Aharon had completed her PhD in developmental biology (joint program of Tel-Aviv University and the NIH), she is a medical oncologist that specializes in gastrointestinal (GI) cancers and serve as the head of the European EORTC task force of young-onset cancer. Prof. Ben-Aharon’s main research interests are treatment-related gonadal and vascular toxicity and young-onset GI cancers, conducted in her laboratory in the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion.

Prof. Yoram Reiter

Reiter scientific expertise is in molecular immunology and immunotherapy of cancer and autoimmune diseases. His laboratory combines basic and translational research in understanding the control of immune function in health and disease. These studies are combined with translational approach to develop novel immunotherapies that combine protein engineering and gene therapy approach leading to the development of engineered antibodies and cellular therapy. Strong relationships with biopharma and entrepreneurship leading to moving his lab readers into a start up company and now on the path to clinical trials. Served twice as the dean of the faculty of biology and currently the head of the Lorry Lokey interdisciplinary center for life sciences and engineering and heads the recently established wide Technion initiative in human health.
